Dear Members of International Law Section!

We had a series of productive and enjoyable events last week during the Mid-year meeting of the Bar.  Executive Council member Peter Quinter hosted a tour of Miami International Airport behind the scenes on Thursday which was exciting for the participants, the number of which had to be limited because of the great demand.  Thank you for the initiative, Peter.  I will look forward to the Port of Miami tour.

Thursday evening, the Section hosted the leadership of our newest partner Bar, the Colegio de abogados de la Republica Dominicana, at the beautiful Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables.  In attendance were the consuls general of the Dominican Republic as well as Germany.  All seemed to enjoy the event as the partnership was signed into force by me and the president of the Dominican Bar.  Thanks to Former Chair John Rooney of Shutts & Bowen for fostering the partnership and to Executive Council member Penelope Perez-Kelly of McClane Tessitore for coordinating and being a lovely, bi-lingual master of ceremonies.  As a reminder, all Section members are invited to ILS events such as this one.  Please come!

Friday, committee meetings were held at the Hyatt Regency in Miami in the morning followed by a luncheon at which the new Annual Sponsor program was introduced for the first time.  The Executive Council meeting followed with the unveiling and approval of the ILS’s new face: the logo designed for us by Battle Media of Ft. Lauderdale.  Please let me know if you have any thoughts or comments on the new look.  The council approved the hiring of the Section’s new marketing manager, Elizabeth Ortega, and sponsorship manager, Teresa Larson.  Ed Davis chairs the newly-formed Sponsorship Committee which has already succeeded in generating 12 Annual Sponsors which contribute $5000 per year to the Section.  Great work, Ed and Teresa!  And welcome to the Section, Elizabeth and Teresa.  You have obviously hit the ground running.

Anyone interested in learning more about the Annual Sponsor program or becoming an Annual Sponsor please contact Immediate Past Chair Ed Davis at edavis@astidavis.com or Sponsorship Manager Teresa Larson at tjl20854@gmail.com.

Remember, the ILS Vienna Retreat is only 9 weeks away.  Please join us!  For details email Jeremy Hughes at jah@mcclanepa.com or visit http://internationallawsection.org/modules/Static_Docs/data/Events/20090403%20ILS%20Retreat%20Vienna%20Brochure.pdf.

Warm regards,

Brock
